80% of women around the world suffer from cellulite and when I run my massage and aromatherapy courses I’m always asked the question ‘how can I get rid of my cellulite?’
So I thought I’d put pen to paper and give you some top tips on how to manage this condition.

Firstly what is cellulite ?
Dimply, puckered skin on the thighs, hips and bottom which always seems to look far worse than it sometimes is and there are lots of opinions as to why we have it from poor diet , lack of exercise , poor circulation, genetic factors, being overweight but it still continues to be one of those conditions that we just don’t seem to get to the bottom of ( excuse the pun!)

So on a holistic level we can tackle cellulite from the inside as well as from the outside
So what can be done to lessen the effects of cellulite so that we feel proud of our legs and bottom this summer?

• Eating a diet high in foods which will help to detox the body. The liver is the main organ of detoxification helping to break down fats, making cholesterol, helping to balance blood levels of glucose to name a few. So helping support the liver nutritionally goes a long way to helping combat and refine cellulite. Eat foods high in antioxidants nutrients from the vitamin C found in fruit to the glucosinolates found in broccoli and kale keeps the liver ticking over well. Try the wonderfoods green salad to give you a kick start (find it on the recipes tab)

• Cut back on alcohol, caffeine, fatty foods , salty foods and processed sugary foods nad food additives lessens the burden on the liver

• Drink plenty of pure water or herbal teas. How Much? Divide your weight in kilos by eight. For example, if you weigh 60kg, this divided by eight equals 7.5 glasses of water. Round the figure up to eight glasses a day!

• Dry skin brush the affected areas on a daily basis and apply a good moisturizer such as cocoa butter

• Start an exercise plan to help with the circulation and lymphatic system. You choose as long as you do something!!

• Aromatherapy massage really helps because massage increases circulation and helps with the elimination of toxins by unblocking lymphatic congestion, and when done correctly massage helps break up the fatty deposits too. Cellulite always looks much worse if you are suffering from fluid retention, and massage activates the lymphatic flow and lymph nodes which help to expel toxins out of the body. Certain essential oils, such as juniper , lemon , geranium & patchouli can help this action, and there are several effective ones to choose from.
